So what is it like to work at Guidewire? We asked Gary Ward our Global Resource Management Office Lead to give us an insight into his first 12 months at Guidewire.
"After several years in the Business Operations space from contracting compliance to process excellence and quality control, I was seeking a new challenge in my career by the end of 2015. It was at this time that I had heard about Guidewire and looked into their company profile online.
Thoroughly taken with not only the company mission, Glassdoor reviews and customer testimonials, upon application I continued to be positively reinforced with the communication coming from the Recruitment team and the hiring managers in the Dublin office, leading to an interview process that was second to none.
Everyone I met during that time was friendly, enthusiastic and adept. It was one of the few moments in my career that an interview process had been proven to be a two-way street and the caliber of the people I spoke to, not only grew my curiosity but my determination to join the company.
I started with Guidewire in January 2016 to fulfil a brand new role to the organization, as the first Resource Staffing Manager. This role is a critical part of our business and allows us to capture information for Professional Services to meet customer implementation and internal initiative project demands, analyze capacity, work with our project delivery and consulting management teams to staff consultants, maintain skills, forecasting & availability data, build strong and broad relationships across departments and promote continuous process improvement.
Since joining I have been more than impressed with not only the products, solutions and service that Guidewire delivers to their customers but their absolute commitment to their three founding principles: Integrity, Rationality and Collegiality. It was clear very quick that I was now a member of a team of exceptional professionals who are collaborative, creative, always looking for ways to improve and dedicated to success, of not only their own function and role within the organization but the success of the team of people that report to them, other departments and regions and the entire business.
Within the first three months, I had been brought through a training program that assisted with my understanding of the insurance market, our product offerings, systems and procedures, methodology, project phases and was orientated to existing meeting schedules and task planning to get a sense of what my day to day role would entail. During each stage of this process my own observations and ideas were welcomed and I was encouraged and given the confidence to take ownership, build relationships, partner with my colleagues and collaboratively work towards pursuing change, improvement and efficiency.
As a new joiner, I was introduced to key stakeholders and associates across the business that I could call upon for guidance and support, all of who made themselves readily available to me, from the management team right up to executive leadership. The support and encouragement I had received and continue to receive to this day have been amazing!
My first year with Guidewire has been professionally challenging, exhilarating and rewarding. Just twelve months on, after learning so much and having several successes in my role, sports and social events and visits to London, Chicago and Las Vegas for meetings and professional development, the year is ending with as much enthusiasm as it began.
After being nominated for our 'Hero of the Quarter award' for Q1 FY17 followed by my recent promotion to Team Lead for our new Global Resource Management Office (RMO) function, Guidewire have afforded me the best of opportunities, exponentially developing my skills, cultivating both personal and professional growth and inspiring the best of my work. I look forward to a long and satisfying career with them."
