Migration Engineer, Cloud Transition Practice

The Role:

As an Engineer for the Cloud Transition Migration Tooling team, you will work within an engineering team to deliver new features to the existing Data Migration tools and help build out new tools required to enable the move of our self-managed customers to Guidewire Cloud and support our existing self-managed tooling.

You will be an active member of the team, delivering new migration tooling that enables our Delivery Services Migration team to perform legacy data migrations and data transitions for our customers, and prepare the customer projects for success.

You will utilize best practices for design and development of features and work with your team to ensure the correct coding processes are followed. You will document your features and share knowledge with the wider Guidewire Cloud Transition teams.

One of our principles is to have fun while we deliver, so this role will need to keep the development process fun and engaging for the team in collaboration with the Engineering Leads/Manager and wider group. Given the dynamic nature of the work in the Guidewire Cloud Transition team, we are looking for decisive, highly-skilled technical problem solvers who can bring their array of experience working in previous Engineering roles with focus on automation and tooling.

You will cooperate closely with teams located in Kraków and Dublin.


  • Building tools to enable efficient and seamless transition effort
  • Active participation in code and spike reviews, helps with story elaboration and design decisions
  • Help define and follow development processes
  • Keeps the Engineering Lead informed of status and blockers or risks
  • Keeps informed of new technology stacks so the right tools are used to solve transition problems
  • Systematic problem-solving approach, coupled with a sense of ownership and drive
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced Agile environment

Background and Skills required:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Computer Science, or equivalent level of demonstrable professional competency, and 3 years + in development type role
  • Development experience using Java (versions 8 to 11) preferred
  • Experience developing and deploying production REST APIs
  • Experience working with relational and/or NoSQL databases
  • Good understanding of CI/CD and DevOps tools

  • Experience using public cloud providers, preferably AWS (EKS, DynamoDB, IAM, SQS, S3...)
  • Experience in building platform software using Kubernetes, Docker and cloud native technologies
  • Experience in Data Migration
  • IntelliJ development experience
