Senior Java Software Engineer

Guidewire delivers outstanding software products for the second-largest financial services industry in the world: insurance. We provide the core applications for Property and Casualty (P&C) insurance companies to build their business products, sell policies, settle claims, and bill their customers. We deliver SaaS solutions via Guidewire Cloud enabling our customers to rapidly innovate and drive measurable value. Guidewire Cloud is powered by the highly resilient Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud infrastructure, with SLAs backed by experienced Guidewire teams and SaaS-certified partners spanning application management, system administration, security and compliance, upgrades, quality assurance, health checks, and other services.

The Guidewire Policy Center Cloud team is creating new policy cloud solutions for insurance companies to accelerate their products to market, improve pricing and risk selection, gain insights into business performance, and deliver the best policy administration experience for their customers. We are looking for a creative and motivated Senior Java Software Engineer to build scalable cloud solutions for the P&C insurance industry's complex business domain and make our industry-leading products even better. 

What we’re looking for

  • 7+ years of extensive Java programming skills
  • Solid understanding of common data structures and programming best-practices
  • Promote object-oriented design principles ("SOLID"/Hexagonal) and other design patterns
  • Experience designing REST or gRPC based APIs
  • Experience with cloud-native technologies and public cloud providers (e.g. AWS, GCP, Azure)
  • Experience working with relational and/or NoSQL databases
  • Detailed problem-solving approach, coupled with a sense of ownership and drive
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced agile environment
  • Effective collaboration with highly skilled team members, product managers, architects, and operations team.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to explain complex technical concepts to a varied audience
  • Ability to rapidly learn new technologies
  • BS/MS in Computer Science (or a related technical field), or equivalent level of demonstrable professional competency

Nice to have

  • Experience with microservices architecture and containers.
  • Prior experience with Spring Boot.
  • Experience building secure software and knowledge of security practices.
  • Understanding of CI/CD and DevOps tools.
