Team Lead - Data Scraper/GIS

You will be working on using scraping/retrieval techniques to build databases like fire locations, crime data, insurance company filings, and any other datasets we might build. GIS experience is also a must.

How you'll make an impact:

  • The data scraping team leader is responsible for building, managing, and leading a team of data scrapers and overseeing the data scraping process from start to finish.
  • The team lead will also be the primary point of contact with the US-based team.
  • The team lead will also be part of the process to find new and interesting datasets for ingestion.

Your key differentiators:

  • With 8+ years of experience in relevant project. BS/MS degree (Computer Science or Math) or equivalent level of proven professional proficiency.
  • Strong leadership skills: ability to manage, motivate and lead a team of data scrapers.
  • Technical expertise: knowledge of data scraping techniques, tools, and technologies, as well as a solid understanding of the industry and its best practices.
  • Strong communication skills: ability to communicate effectively with team members, stakeholders, and clients.
  • Insurance Industry Experience – having built databases for the insurance industry is a huge plus.
  • Project management skills: ability to plan, organize, and manage multiple projects, and to ensure that they are completed on time and within budget.
  • Problem-solving and analytical skills: ability to identify and resolve issues that arise during the data scraping process, and to make informed decisions based on data analysis.
  • Technical writing skills: ability to write technical documentation, including reports, user guides, and instructions for team members.
  • Experience with data visualization and data analysis: ability to analyze and interpret data, to identify patterns and trends, and to present data in a clear and meaningful way.
  • Experience with GIS and the tools is required – either QGIS or Arc products.
  • Strong attention to detail: ability to identify and correct errors and inconsistencies in data, and to ensure that the data is accurate and up to date.

Nice to have:

  • Familiarity with Git and version control: Understanding of Git and version control helps to keep track of changes in the code and collaborate with team members.
  • Familiarity with Cloud Services: Understanding of cloud services like AWS or GCP can be useful for storing and processing large datasets.
