Engineering Lead, Pipeline Tooling, CTP

Guidewire’s Cloud Transition Practice (CTP) was established to help our self-managed customers transition to Guidewire Cloud in a faster and more cost-effective way, by defining and enabling the upgrade path, and building tools and automation for increased efficiency. 

The Role:

As the Engineering Lead for the Cloud Transition Pipeline Tooling team, you will lead a group of engineers to deliver new features to the existing Insurance Suite pipeline tooling and help build on the roadmap of cloud transition assessment needs to assess and digest information about our customers configurations moving to the cloud.

You will be a lead of new tooling that enables our Assessment and Transition Specialist teams to deliver seamless upgrades/transitions for our customers and prepares the customer projects for success.
You will mentor developers in the team on best practices for design and development of features and ensure the correct coding processes for review are followed. You will advocate for documenting design and spike discussions and ensure everyone involved in the feature delivery is on the same page.

You will need to co-ordinate between other engineering teams and help report status for the your team's work to the engineering manager and pro-actively seek their advice on design and roadmap direction.

You will be responsible for the release of updates to the pipeline assessment application and delivering new features and functionality to allow our wider CTP teams get a picture of what is involved in their transition efforts.

One of our principles in CTP is to have fun while we deliver so this role will need to keep the development process fun and engaging for the team in collaboration with the Engineering Manager and other Engineering Leads.
Given the dynamic nature of the work in the CTP team, we are looking for decisive, highly-skilled technical problem solvers who can bring their array of experience working in previous Engineering roles with focus on automation and tooling.


  • Mentor Junior/Senior developers and engineering team members
  • Active participation in code and spike reviews, helps with story elaboration and design decisions
  • Help define and follow development processes
  • Keep the team motivated
  • Help resolve technical disagreements within the team
  • Keep the Engineering Manager informed of status and blockers or risks
  • Keep informed of new technology stacks so the right tools are used to solve transition problems

Background and Skills:

  • Past experience leading an engineering team or team of developers/consultants
  • Previously work as a Delivery Services Architect with 5+ years of experience post undergraduate.
  • IntelliJ development experience a big plus
  • Experience in upgrades/migration using custom built tooling beneficial
  • Good knowledge of InsuranceSuite products and how they are configured and integrated
  • Loves investigating and solving complex problems
  • 5+ years in a hands-on software development role
  • Keen interest in new development technologies to solve technical problems
