Senior Engineer - Data Scraper/GIS

You will be working on using scraping/retrieval techniques to build databases like fire locations, crime data, insurance company filings, and any other datasets we might build. GIS experience is also a must.

How you'll make an impact:

Extract data from various sources, such as websites, databases, and APIs, and then storing that data in a structured format, such as a spreadsheet or database.
Write scripts or using specialized software to automate the data extraction process. Cleaning and formatting the data, as well as ensuring that it is accurate and up to date.
Monitor the data sources for changes and updating the extracted data accordingly. The role may also include analyzing the data and identifying trends or patterns.

Your key differentiators:

With 4 to 8 years of experience in relevant project. BS/MS degree (Computer Science or Math) or equivalent level of proven professional proficiency
Programming skills: Knowledge of one or more programming languages such as Python, Java, or R is necessary for writing scripts to extract data from various sources.
Web scraping skills: Familiarity with web scraping libraries and frameworks such as Beautiful Soup, Scrapy, and Selenium is important for extracting data from websites.
Database skills: Knowledge of SQL and how to work with databases is important for storing and managing extracted data.
Regular expressions: Understanding of regular expressions (regex) is important for parsing and extracting specific information from unstructured data.
API skills: Knowledge of how to work with APIs and extract data from them.
Experience with GIS and the tools is required – either QGIS or Arc products.

Nice to have:

Familiarity with data structures and data processing tools: understanding of data structures like JSON and XML is important to extract data from them. Understanding of data processing tools like pandas and NumPy is important to clean and manipulate the data.
Familiarity with Git and version control: Understanding of Git and version control helps to keep track of changes in the code and collaborate with team members.
