Adventure's around the corner...

Cloud Engineer (Monitoring)

  • Department Product Development and Operations
  • Location Australia - Remote
  • Location Type Remote
Guidewire’s Cloud Engineering Team is part of the Product Development & Operations (PDO) organization. We deliver 24x7 service and cloud solutions to customers who are on the Guidewire Cloud Platform.

The Role:
As a member of Monitoring and Alerting, you will be part of a small sub-team of Cloud Engineering that is dedicated to identifying critical downtime and failures within the Guidewire ecosystem before it impacts our customers. You will be operating Guidewire’s flagship cloud platform and InsuranceSuite products and utilizing tooling to help ensure efficient operations and optimal availability of all SaaS multi-tenant and customer-focused systems. This role is a mix of operations, where you will be responding to and investigating system alerts and monitors for issues, and engineering, where you will help build new automation and enhancements to our monitoring solution. In addition to our Guidewire products, you will work directly with AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, GIT, TeamCity/Jenkins, and Linux in this role.

This role requires a high degree of business and technical judgment, as well as independence and ownership. The ideal candidate is someone who exemplifies the ethics of, "If you have to do something more than once, automate it," and who can rapidly self-educate on new concepts and tools. You believe that best-in-class monitoring requires continuous assessment and improvement of how we measure and when we alert. You enjoy being a generalist, and never lose sight that your role is in service to our customers. You do not need to have prior working experience with our cloud stack, but we value those who have worked in Support, System Administrator, or similar Operations roles.

In return, this role offers an incredibly broad visibility to the Guidewire Cloud Platform. You will see and gain a general understanding of not only Guidewire’s cloud infrastructure, but to the applications that run on our platform. You will be challenged to dig deeper in your understanding of the platform in order to restore identified failures. This function will help develop you into more technical roles within Product Development and Operations.

The Cloud Engineering Team is dedicated full-time to crafting and running software that improves the reliability of systems in production, serving hundreds of customers and supporting millions of transactions every single day. Bonus points if you have prior experience doing production support of a SaaS platform, and are comfortable working with state-of-the-art highly containerized cloud-native environments in AWS.

We provide 24x7 support to our customers, so we expect you to take turns with your teammates being on-call for weekend production emergencies or to provide rotating weekend operational support.
